9:55 PM

Good Evening Fellow Aspirants,

I apologize for the late post. Like many, I still practice the poor habit of procrastinating. I have prepared a brief lecture for Friday, and my author of choice is Nick Bantock, made famous by his work: The Griffin and Sabine Saga, which comprises of 6 books. I had the good fortune of reading the first trilogy 6 years ago. An old friend of mine apparently owned the first set of three, which she brought to class one day, and later introduced them to me. I was captivated by the thrill each book had to offer, each page at that.

Nick Bantock is not only an accomplished writer, but an accomplished artist as well, who solely authored and illustrated his books.

The reason as to why I was chosen to lecture first is still unclear to me, considering my poor literary background, but I take it as an honor and a privilege to do so. Being a neophyte in this world of words, I have accepted the reality that errors will be made, and at a certain point, you might not even agree with me, but bear with me please. I promise to acknowledge the need for improvement.

I encountered some difficulties during my search for online sources, and I’m afraid the internet wasn’t as promising as it should be. Do not despair though, my being a fan compelled me to acquire a copy of my own, which I did recently, but only the first book, the book that started it all. My sweet sister was generous enough to lend a hand in typing most of the first book’s contents, which you will be able to access at http://travelerseurope.blogspot.com/

I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did, though abridged, either way, the author did intend his works to be a cliff hanger. I shall be looking forward to seeing you soon, and am interested in hearing your thoughts come Friday.

Respectfully,

Daniel Anton Go

it's me, ethel. i'll be using "il mare" as my pseudonym. it's actually from a korean movie which has a VERY UNIQUE storyline and if you are not familiar with it, try to watch "The Lake House" by keanu reeves & sandra bullock. it's the hollywood version of it. i can watch this two films many times yet they never fail to fascinate me. i hope we can also create a literary work that is uniquely our own. tatak Pinoy.

God bless everyone

p.s. christian, how are you? how's our book club? everytime i pass by city hall, i'm reminded of you. hope to see you soon.

Poetry Reading this wed!

The performance poetry group XO from UP is having their monthly poetry reading / performance this wed at crossroads.
I think it's called tapas lounge? And i think it's the bar that's really a salon in the morning.
I think it's this wed night.

Obviously this is all speculation. hahaha But a good speculation enough if any of you are interested in listening to words, watching dancers well... dance, or really just meet up. :-)

And bring your poems just in case! We can always hold an impromptu reading OUTSIDE crossroads. Near ERUF. haha

T.y. Dan sakto kau imong mga advice.

For the past week I've been doing just that.
Yes, I do get inspiration from video games.
In fact the reason i began reading fantasy was because of Icewind Dale the game
It had a nice story and artwork done by John Avon <>

I am currently rereading Dungeon and Dragon's manuals.
It may give some ideas how to create my own fantasy world.
I already know how to play the game.
And I need other players to join me.

Do any of you know any D n' D players?
D n' D might help me practice my story telling.
I used to play D n'D Skirmishes.
I have pieces to use with.

Please post if there is any D n'd players out there, or any one who wants to play the game.
I know how play wizard and speak Elvish, Draconian and Common.

Ow. by the way... Iron man was awesome!

BOO!!! :-)

Ey Guys! Musta naman mo? It's me Daniel Go! I'll be using "Conway" as my pseudonym. I got this name from a book my Dad recommended, "The Lost Horizon". I can't really say it's one of the best books I've ever read. Instead, what makes this book so special to me is that my Dad recommended it to me, and he never recommends anything for me to read. So in a way, the book means a lot to me and so is the name Conway.
Any who... Christian what happened to our Literature Club Meeting this Week? I'm really excited about it! I know I haven't said much about my interests on this club, but I'm really looking forward to it. I'm willing to commit. Like so many people, I've taken up a course not of my likings for practical reasons, and now that I've graduated. I'm free! Free to follow my heart without worry. I did what I had to do, which was to take up nursing , and now, I'm going to do want I've been wanting to do for a very long time!
The reason why I'm really hoping this Literature Club would come to be is because I don't think I have the time, energy, or money to take up another course, and personally, I think it would be impractical. Fortunately, God has led me into meeting all of you guys! The world of Literature is all too new to me! and so far, I love it! I feel like a lost child who has found his way to DISNEY WORLD! A world where magic and fairy tales come to life! A place of perpetual joy!
And because I am new to this, I need all of your help. I believe each of us has something that would contribute to the progress of others.
I feel blessed to have met a lot of talented individuals and writers in the workshop and it is my hope that I get a chance to work with all of you. For now, this proposed club is as close as I could get to achieving that dream. I believe there's so much we could offer to each other. Please, please, please let this push through! I know Ivi would be committed too, right Iv?! hehehe
To Je: Ey Je! Musta na? Hmm... We have very similar interests too, about inventing a world I mean. My quest started a long time ago, when I was at grade 6. I was convinced to invent one so that I could have a platform for my story. I can't really tell you much about my story because wala pa nako na copyright hehehe peace! But I can share a few tips I used to help create this world of mine.
Tip #1: Extract ideas from video games (especially the Final Fantasy series, and RPG's), from movies, Cartoons, Stories, and History.
Approach these mediums as an observer, not someone wishing to be entertained, but keep in mind the nature of your story and the world you want to create. So the next time you watch a movie or play a game, keep a pen and paper close by. A good PC game that would help you create a world are the SIMS series, Civilization, and other games a like. ( games where you play god)

Tip #2: Keep a Catalogue and start learning how to sketch
It's very crucial to document the dimensions of your world. Write down what kind of world it is, what are the modes of transportation, the currencies, names of towns or kingdoms, etc. This will remind you of how your world is. You could also update it later if you want. Next up is the sketching part. You have draw your world map. sketch the clothing styles, transportations, houses or palaces, your characters, creatures, etc. This will help you bring your story to life. At the same time you build your world, you will begin to notice that there will be so many stories to tell (which is a good thing). Documenting your progress and creations will not only finalize things but will also be a source of inspiration to you.

I hope you find these tips helpful because they sure have helped me :) and most importantly, ENJOY the process!

Well guys, it's getting late. I'm looking forward to hearing from you all!

-Dan

Wrinkled Oranges, etc. and an Introduction to the Personal Essay

I'm giving a talk on the essay this Saturday at USJR.

Wrinkled oranges, theme books, and the name of a beautiful girl

(An Introduction to the Personal Essay)

It's at 10-11 am. Saturday. At the Norberto Quisumbing Hall, in USJR.

It's an event sponsored and organized by FORWARD publication, and it's specifically for the USJR student body. I asked the organizers though if it was ok if a few people could sit in (meaning you! hehe). And they agreed, for a limited number.

I need you to email me by Friday afternoon (this afternoon!), if you're interested in attending the lecture. So we can coordinate transpo, meeting place, and you can come with me to USJR. Please email me asap.

Given the private nature of this lecture, please EMAIL me asap if interested. They might not allow you in if you decide to make an appearance lang on Saturday. I check my email at 4 pm this afternoon.

If you just read this post and it's past 4 pm, text me. :-)

Enjoy enjoy the weekend!

Haru ^^

It's me Christian. from now on, i'd be using the pseudonym, Kafkaesque (coined from Franz Kafka, meaning, existential decadence). I just love franz kafka, you know. if you're familiar with the Metamorphosis, you know what i'm talking about. Really, today is Friday! huhuhu. been used to report in the office only in the morning knowing that for two weeks, MWF are workshop days. Yesterday, i just kept writing... i had to admit, i've not been soo faithful to write the morning pages. my bad. but anyhow, im really thankful for the wonderful and creative experience. now that the workshop is over, something just urged me to continue the morning pages. how inscrutable.

To Larry: I searched through the internet your winning piece in the 2006 Palanca Awards. And my, sir larry, that poem entitled Garden really struck me! Highest Hiding Place is such a magnificent oeuvre!

To ivie: Girl... you're most welcome (referring to your reply in kenneth's blog). English Literary History is highly interesting. Doncha worry, once we lay out the blue prints for the literary club, i'll orient you more with that. it's just one scaffold of the whole structure in Literary Scholarship. It's such a tedious thing to grasp its history but i'll make it terse for you and the rest, I hope we can meet next week. hmmm, im still dubios if i'd be avaible on Tuesday. i'll just keep in touch.

Guys, long before, I have this grand idea of creating a literary club (for the aspiring youth and young professionals into literary arts, or say a reading-writing club). and since our workshop has just concluded, i thought of fishing for some prospects. but really, im inviting all of you to work with me hand-in-hand in this pursuit. i pretty much believe that through this, we become good writers of our own, bringing out our voice and calibre of writing experience. Now that we learned so much from Larry's workshop, its high time to put this really into practice. As benjamin franklin one said, "Tell me and i forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn".... so, let's continue learning from our experiences (reading and writing experiences) and hone this God-given talent of ours. I tell you this would be a very intellectual and productive activity. Just think of it as a pastime act. It's always great to have someone to share with your thoughts and words especially if you're on the same boat. If i may quote from januar yap also, we are a burgeoning literary flair... so let's keep burning! i've disclosed this to a few team mates of ours. in case you're interested, you may contact me at 09153570512. really, i owe this to Sir Larry and to all of you. you inspire me so much guys! Hope we'll bring out the best to each and everyone of us. I love you all. Miss you loads..

Ay! 'En Hello every one

Si je ni!

I have a new email: the.kuan@yahoo.com
-Just an update

I'm wondering if any of you is going to another workshop this coming month.
Any other events?
For me I will conduct a workshop of me' own its called LEARN-IT-YOURSELF. In the coming months I would read lots n' lots of books of geography, mythology, and economy, 3 basics on creating a world of your own. I need help on where I could find the resources and books. All I have are the D n'D Dungeon Master's Guide and the Simmillarion by Tolkien.

Just like that

And suddenly we already have a blog!

HI everyone! Thanks kenneth!

O start posting your revised poems! (Kung dili mo, ako'y mu-post karon!hehe)
And your chapters from your future Gorordo novel. :-)

This saturday, I'm giving a short talk on my love affair with the essay (10-11 am, USJ-R , more details later)
Email me if interested, so I can tell the organizers to prepare the red carpet for you.

and I'd have to agree: I fart, therefore I am.
and ivi: Didn't think Maya Azucena TOTALLY changed all our ideas of what it mean to have a VOICE? :-)

the art of farting

to kick things off, i'm posting an old essay of mine :)

####################################

i farted. in public.

it happened in the gym. after a few minutes jogging at the treadmill, i went over to the water cooler for a drink. i was pondering the merits of hale's second album (it sucked. don't buy it.), and then BAM! it happened.

it may have been because of the kamote-q i had earlier for snacks. kamote has a very bad reputation of making one's tummy full of gas. consider yourself warned.

fortunately, none of the people there actually knew me, and none of them was directly near me when it happened. but nonetheless, it happened. i farted. in public. in public!!! and that fart brought with it my own embarassment.

those who have cared to think about farts have classified them into three categories. first, the loud and proud fart. this is more comparable to a dog whose bark is louder than it's bite. it announces its presence to the world ("hello! i am a fart. nice to meet you.") and then is gone. second, the silent but deadly fart. these ones are like assassins lurking in the shadows, or more appropriately, nerve gas. very hard to detect, you never really know that it's just floating there until it assaults your olfactory system and it's too late, you're a goner. and lastly, the wet and wild fart. don't even ask.

unluckily for me, it was the loud and proud kind of fart. well, not really loud in the booming kind of way. it was more like a sharp sound, made even sharper by my own shame. from the sound of it, it was as if my insides were full of air heaving mightily to get out, and my sphincter in a valiant yet futile attempt to stop it. but the fart sounded loud enough for me to hear even if i still had my earphones on, playing music at full volume.

for a moment, i considered fleeing from the scene of the crime. but that would only have confirmed my own guilt in front of everybody. just when my embarassment reached the intensity enough to tear myself apart, then my psychological defense mechanisms started kicking in.

phase one: denial. "no, they couldn't have heard it... but then i heard it! and i have my earphones on full volume! oh crap..."

phase two: delusion. "i'll just imagine it didn't happen. everything is all right with the world. tralalalala..." but my delusions were too flimsy to carry the weight of my embarassment: "shit... it's not working".

so on to phase three: defiance. "so what if they heard me fart? who cares if they make of fun of me? if they make fun of me, then i'll... i'll... aaaaarggghh!!!"

finally, phase four: acceptance.

so i farted. i would rather have the good air in and the bad air out. anyway, i think it's unhealthy to withhold your fart when your body deems it necessary to be withdrawn. better outside than in.

so i farted. to be human means to fart. i fart, therefore i am. i can think of it as a confirmation that i am normal. everybody farts, so why trouble myself? you and me, kings and queens, presidents and popes, and even angelic beings like angel locsin, angel aquino, and angelina jolie, we all fart. i remember michel de montaigne saying: "upon the highest throne in the world, we are seated, still, on our asses."

so i farted. to live in denial of your ability to fart is to live in denial of your own body. and farting is, by design, part of the package. unless of course you're a mutant, or an alien, or a cyborg. chances are, you're not. so why do we keep demanding from ourselves that we not fart, when it is part of our nature to? again, montaigne: "it is not clever of man to tailor his obligations to the standards of a different kind of being", be it mutant, alien, or cyborg.

so i farted. we seem to live under the notion that we are and should be in total control of our bodies. but we don't, and we can't. mind doesn't always come over matter. we fart in the company of strangers. we stink, burp, feel the urge to piss or shit, or even get horny at moments we need it most not to. and yet that is the most natural thing that can happen to us. the least we can do is live with it, and not tear ourselves apart on the occasional rebellion of some of our body parts.

so i farted. at least i am here able to fart, and able to hear myself fart. so i cherish these days when i can still fart, and hear myself fart, for the day is coming when i will be no longer able to do that. and that day is coming for us all.

that last one really hit me. oh boy, was i happy i farted.

disclaimer: i am not encouraging everyone to take up the license to fart freely and proudly in public. that would be plain rude. and it certainly won't endear you to anyone.

and that is how i lived with the embarrassment of having farted in public.

welcome to our blog!

this is the official blog of little boy productions' creative writing workshop for 2008, now accepting poetry/fiction/essay submissions :) comments, suggestions, and criticisms are highly encouraged. keep writing!
